Program
Apart from the high quality competitions we have many other highlight during the festival: The impressive opening ceremony at the “Hallenstadion”, the parade at the “Bahnhofstrasse, two gala concerts and many more.
When you buy the WJMF-pin you have free access to all concerts and competitions. The pin costs CHF 6 (together with the programme booklet it costs CHF 10) which you can obtain mainly near the competition halls.
Gala concert – Theater 11
Thursday, July 6th, 2017 – 7.30 pm
The gala concert is the first highlight of the WJMF 2017. With the Swiss “National Youth Windband” and the Swiss Army Symphonic Wind Orchestra we have two exceptional orchestras playing in the Theater 11. Program details will be announced as soon as possible. The concert begins 7.30 pm and the entrance is free of charge. We look forward to welcoming you!
Opening ceremony – Hallenstadion
Friday, July 7th, 2017 – 7.30 pm
Let the festival begin! The opening ceremony will be the kick-off into an exciting weekend. The “Hallenstadion” is the most well-known and biggest eventlocation in Switzerland. The stadium will rock, when all participants of the WJMF 2017 will enter. Groovy sound of the SWISS Band will be part of the show as well a performance by the Swiss Army Recruit Band and 150 percussion students of the school of music in Zurich.
Parade through Bahnhofstrasse
Saturday July 8th, 2017 – 10 – 12 am
All participants are welcome to join the parade through the Bahnhofstrasse on Saturday morning. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in a parade in the beautiful city of Zurich. The orchestras either can play during the parade or just be a part of it without making music. The “Reitermusik Elgg” (on horses) as well as the “Pipes and drums of Zurich” will join in for the parade.
Youth Music Party – Hallenstadion
Saturday July 8th, 2017 – 7 pm
The Youth Music Party will be held on saturday night, July 8th, 2017 in the Hallenstadion in Zurich. From 7pm to 2am (at the latest) there will be live-music, bars and some surprises. The young musicians will have the opportunity to find new friends, have some fun and relax from the demanding musical program during their weekend in Zurich.
Gala concert – Theater 11
Saturday July 8th, 2017 – 8 pm
The Ryukoku University Symphonic Band from Japan will do a concert together with «Dai Kimoto & swing kids» from Switzerland. The concert will be under the patronage of the winband association of the city of Zurich.
Closing ceremony – Hallenstadion
Sunday, July 9th, 2017 – 4 pm
The closing ceremony gives all the participants the chance to get together one last time. “Dai Kimoto & his Swing Kids” will make sure everybody has a good time before the results everybody will be waiting for are announced.
Fairground Münsterhof
Whole weekend
At the fairground „Münsterhof“ approximately 30 youth bands from Switzerland and abroad will perform on stage. In addition the police band of the city of Zurich, the police band of the canton Zurich, the live band of the Swiss railways and two military bands as wel as “Impulsiv” from Lucerne will guarantee for many musical highlights. For the well-being of the audience there will be enough food and drinks available. In addition there will be concerts at the Hirschenplatz, the Bürkliplatz as well as the Marktplatz Oerlikon. You will find the exact times under Competitions “Young Talents on Stage”.
