The competitions were divided into the different categories concert, parade, shows, percussion and for the first time Big Band. The festival was opened with a gala concert held by the Swiss National Youth Windband and the Symphonic Windband of the Swiss Army on Thursday, the 6th of July in the Theater 11. The official Opening Ceremony then took place on Friday in the big Arena of the Hallenstadion. In a remarkable show all the arrived bands from many different countries were welcomed and Zurich and wished for a unforgettable weekend. On Saturday the Ryukoku University Symphonic Band with its 90 musicians from Japan came together on stage with «Dai Kimoto & his Swing Kids» for another gala concert in Theater 11. This and much more was the 6th World Youth Music Festival Zurich 2017. We want to say thank you to the complete organizing committee and all the 550 volunteers for their great work, the patronage committee under the lead of Mr. Martin Vollenwyder, the City of Zurich, all Sponsors and foundations, all patrons and all the music associations for their commitment. Without them, this big event would not be possible.
